Matt D’Anna, Pattern Analysis Team Lead

Matt D’Anna is a Pattern Analysis Team Lead for BAIR. Prior to this, he was a Tactical and Intelligence Police Analyst and subsequent Supervisor of the Crime and Intelligence Center of the Tempe, Arizona Police Department. Mr. D’Anna holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York, and a Master of Advanced Study in Geographic Information Systems from Arizona State University as well as two Bachelor of Science degrees from Arizona State University, one in Justice Studies and one in Political Science. Mr. D’Anna has taught spatial analysis, tactical crime analysis, next event forecasting and crime mapping to law enforcement professionals around the country. He is currently an adjunct professor in Crime Analysis at Arizona State University and the former Vice President of the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts.

Wesley English, Law Enforcement Specialist

Wesley English is a Law Enforcement Specialist for BAIR who specializes in geographic profiling. He holds a Masters degree in Forensic Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Mr. English has taught Applied Research Methods & Statistics in Crime Analysis at British Columbia Institute of Technology as well as Research Methods at the Chicago School. He also provides geographic profiling training to crime analysts. Mr. English is a member of the International Crime Analysts Association, the International Academy for Investigative Psychology, and the American Psychology-Law Society.

Eric Nelson, Director of Analytics

Eric Nelson is the Director of Analytics for BAIR. He is responsible for providing research, training and innovative analytical solutions in his role as a consultant for multiple government agencies across the country. He is the former Lead Crime Analyst for the City of Lakewood, Colorado, Police Department as well as a former Tactical Crime Analyst for the Tempe, Arizona, Police Department. Mr. Nelson served previously as the President of the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts (AACA), the Vice-President of the AACA, and was the founder of the Arizona Tactical Analyst Network (AZTAN).

Sally Olterman, Law Enforcement Specialist

Sally Olterman is the Law Enforcement Specialist with BAIR. Ms. Olterman holds a Pre-law / Criminal Justice degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Masters in Criminal Justice and Crime Analysis. Ms. Olterman worked as a part time Analyst for Longmont Police Department in 1999 before starting a Crime Analysis Unit at the Weld County Sheriff’s Office in Greeley Colorado, where she worked for 8 years as a Tactical Analyst. She became one of IACA’s first Certified Analysts in 2005. Ms. Olterman has instructed on various topics to agencies throughout the United States, Canada and Brazil.

DAVE ROBERTS, Intelligence Analyst Specialist

Dave Roberts is an Intelligence Analyst Specialist for BAIR. After serving for fourteen years as a communications specialist and supervisor in the British Military (Royal Signals) he went on to serve twenty years as a Communications Specialist, Intelligence Analyst and Technical Leader for both the UK and U.S intelligence communities. Mr. Roberts has received numerous awards for his support to the Global War on Terrorism from the international intelligence community. In addition to awards for his personal analytic contributions, Mr. Roberts has also received awards for his development, oversight and teaching of numerous analysis and GIS courses. Mr. Roberts has personally trained several thousand military and intelligence community personnel from countries worldwide over the last decade.

Brooke Saltzman, Pattern Analysis Team Lead

Brooke Saltzman is a Pattern Analysis Team Lead for BAIR. She earned a Master of Advanced Study from Arizona State University in Geographic Information Systems in 2008 and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2007. Before becoming a Crime Analysis Technician for the City of Scottsdale Police Department, Ms. Saltzman honed her skills as a Tactical Crime Analysis Intern for the Tempe, Arizona Police Department and as a GIS analyst on contract for the Department of Homeland Security.

Doug Smith, Pattern Analysis Team Lead

Doug Smith is a Pattern Analysis Team Lead for BAIR. Before joining BAIR, Mr. Smith was the Crime Analyst for the Avondale Police Department in Arizona where he developed the current Crime Analysis Unit. Prior to this, he worked as the  Crime and Statistical Analyst for the Glendale Police Department. During the course of his career, Mr. Smith has trained dozens of volunteers and police employees in general crime analysis concepts, geographic awareness techniques, and activity tracking software.  In addition to serving on various committees for the International Association of Crime Analysts, he has served as the Terrorism Liaison Officer for the Arizona Counter Terrorism Information Center.  Mr. Smith holds an MBA from Webster University and a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University as well as holding a Crime and Intelligence Analyst Certification from California State University in Sacramento.
